Carlos Ibay
Pianist and Tenor

Deprived of sight since birth, has successfully built an extraordinary two-track career as both concert pianist and dramatic tenor. His musical talents began to emerge when, at the age of two, he climbed onto an organ bench and picked out his favorite song at the time, “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” with his tiny fingers.Unquestionably a seasoned pianist today, he is totally at ease performing concertos by master composers, improvising on folk melodies, or playing his own transcriptions of music from operas or Broadway shows. In addition to operatic arias, his vocal repertoire ranges from the great American standards to the songs of Italy, Spain, France and the Philippines – and he is fluent in each of those languages. Born in the U.S. of native Philippine parents, Mr. Ibay has studied with the distinguished pianists/teachers, Thomas Schumacher at the University of Maryland and Thomas Mastroianni, former Dean of Music at the Catholic University, in Washington, DC. Since 2000, Mr. Ibay has performed in some of the world’s most important venues including the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, the Cultural Center of the Philippines, as well as in the concert halls of Russia, Brazil, Australia and Israel.
